When joining a boxing gym for the first time, you might have various questions about the gym's policies, training routines, and equipment. Here are some common questions and their answers:
What should I wear to the gym?
Wear comfortable workout clothes, such as shorts, a T-shirt, and athletic shoes. Typical training gear to start with. boxing shorts and and branded kit will be provided when representing the club in competitions.
Do I need to bring my own boxing gloves?
Our gym provides gloves for beginners, but it's a good idea to eventually invest in your own pair for hygiene and comfort. hand wraps are also an essential piece of kit to protect your wrists and knuckles. you can borrow these as well as our gloves but, purchasing your own is highly recommended.
Is prior boxing experience necessary?
No, most boxing gyms welcome all skill levels, including beginners. Trainers are typically there to help you learn and progress regardless of your experience.
What are the gym's operating hours?

How much does membership cost?
Inquire about monthly memberships if you want to pay via direct debit or you can pay as you go using cash or card. this extends to buying 3 months or 6 months at a time. you can view these prices on our main PFP landing page.
Can I try a class before committing to a membership?
Many gyms offer a trial class or day pass. This is a great opportunity to see if the gym's training style and atmosphere align with your goals. our day pass is £10, we can discuss membership options with you afterwards.
What types of classes or training sessions do you offer?
Learn about the different classes available, such as beginner boxing classes, advanced training, sparring sessions, and fitness classes. This will help you decide which classes suit your goals. the sessions you book on our timetable are for all abilities. the more advanced sessions are for people pre selected by coaches.
Do I need to be in good shape before starting?
Boxing gyms cater to people at all fitness levels. They can help you build strength and endurance gradually, so don't worry if you're not in top shape when you start. we also like to start people from scratch and teach them the basics correctly. however anyone with previous ability and talent is welcome here.
Is there a trainer to guide me during workouts?
Most boxing gyms have experienced trainers who provide instruction, guidance, and feedback during workouts to ensure proper technique and safety. the group sessions are lead by coaches. you can train individually at the gym anytime we are open and you can enquire about personal 1-1 coaching too.
Are there age restrictions?
Some gyms may have age restrictions due to safety concerns, so ask if there's a minimum age requirement for joining. we accept children from 5 years of age in our junior classes and most 11-12 year olds are ready to train in the amateur sessions.
What's the gym's policy on sparring?
If you're interested in sparring, inquire about the gym's sparring policy, safety measures, and supervised sparring sessions. there are sparring sessions most days and also included in the group training classes. gumshilds and other protection are a necessity and sparring will only take place if you want the experience. it will be conducted in a layered fashion of ability and sparring conditions will be set by the coach.
Do I need to compete, or can I train for fitness?
Clarify your intentions with the gym. Many people train in boxing for fitness and self-defense without any intention of competing. you can choose to practice the sport in sparring or progress to competition if you feel ready to.
How often should I train to see results?
Ask the trainers for their recommendations based on your goals and fitness level. They can provide guidance on how often you should attend classes or train. there are 168 hours in a week and you may choose to exercise 2 or 3 of them. try a combination of good nutrition and portion control, boxing exercise and weight resistance training for weight management too.
Are there any health considerations I should be aware of?
If you have any medical conditions or injuries, it's important to inform the trainers so they can tailor workouts to your needs and ensure your safety. Notes will also be made on our system when signing up.
Can I cancel my membership?
Understand the gym's cancellation policy before signing up in case you need to adjust your membership for any reason. PFP is a no contract gym and you are 100% in control of cancelling your direct debit.
